  • Middle East Technical University (METU) is a state university founded in 1956 with a student population of 26,500 students.

The campus area is 11,100 acres; this includes Lake Eymir, which is about 20 kilometres from the centre of Ankara. METU students use the lake for general recreational activities, as well as using it as a quiet place to study or hang out.

Throughout the academic year, students can enjoy art exhibitions, concerts, cinema and theatre events as well as a variety of social and academic activities. The Cultural and Convention Centre hosts many of these events - including the International Spring Festival, which is one of the most popular social activities for students.

  • Ankara is a modern capital city with an incredible history reaching back to the Bronze Age. Today, it has a population of over 5 million, and acts as one of Turkey’s most exciting cultural hubs. Local markets, hidden bars and contemporary restaurants add to the vibrancy of the city.

Shopping in the old part of the city is a thrill for any visitor, there is a vast array of old copper, jewellery, carpets, antiques and embroidery to be picked through and explored.

Ankara's central location is close to a number of skiing resorts, historical sites and seaside towns. If you hop on a bus you’ll find yourself in Istanbul in five hours.
